Simon passed Grade 1 Piano with Philip back in 1972! He is now one of the UK's up-and-coming composers of the younger generation, with many successful commissions and performances to his name. His father, Ken, who still lives in Saltash with wife, Bronwen, regularly sends Philip his own humorous reviews of concerts at which they are both present. Back in December 2005, Philip gave him the opportunity to write a review for real for the The Herald, of Philip's piano duo recital with Clive Jenkins! To read Ken's review, follow this link, and scroll down to the fourth news item, with the headline, Recital served up for lunch.
Pat passed TCL Grades 6 & 7, before continuing her studies at Trinity College, London. She now specialises in Early Music, and is a fine recorder player and a most accomplished singer. She is a founder member of the locally-based Greenwood Consort, along with Ian Hiscock and Mark Bennett. Ian and Mark both teach in Gloucester, but Mark took his GCSE Music with Philip at Coombe Dean School, before continuing his studies at Exeter University. The picture shows Pat (centre), with members of her ensemble, Mean Time.
Patrick was born in China, moving to the UK at the age of four, and now lives in Bude, North Cornwall. He started playing the piano at five, and took the first five grade exams. He is currently working towards Grade 8, which he hopes to pass during 2008. Lessons for Year 9 student, Patrick, are certainly no easy matter either, as they involve a round-trip of almost 120 miles each time!
